Feedback:

As we did our presentation I was super intrested in the fact that Gemma suggested the members of my group and her use a scrap piece of paper and write down their initial interpretations of my project. This allowed me to see if what I am presenting translates well into first impressions. I really enjoyed this as I was quite happy to see that my project is translating well without a spoken explanation!

Gemma was also super helpful in writing key words that she would like me to answer/ explain further. This enabled me to see what I needed to work on as I progress further into my project.

Written Feedback:

Hi Veronika

It was nice to meet you last week, sorry for the delay getting back to you.

Overall, you have a solid concept, visually and verbally communicating well.

Please see the below

  1. elevation / section can include sun path? even moonlight at night? :) I think this will make your visual communication more dramatic and poetic. Working with both natural and artificial light conditions (mix exterior context and your interior intervention).

  2. I hope you have more clear ideas with the private space now. What is the function of the space?

  3. Love your photoshop render – more realistic look, forest is full of rough textures! Keep working on Photoshop. Many students only work with rhino or blender rendering programs... Show the skill you have!

  4. Your façade design - keep it simple? Your interior design is already strong and attractive. Instead of adding new architectural exterior elements, can we respect the existing heritage condition as much as possible?

  5. Working with 5 senses? How can we create more contrastt between the city noise vs calming interior envinronment? may consider soundproof/ absorbent material on the wall/ floor? See Autex products (https://www.autexacoustics.com.au/products/acoustic-timber). You can create 3 levels of sound layers. City – pathway – private space. Concrete floor vs timber floor vs rubber flooring finish vs NZ stone finish? (what is the ground is like when we are in a forest?) How can we visualise it so that the viewers can imagine the sound? If blender can visualise wind blowing through the pathway, what is it going to like? Any sound?

Considering, biophilic design - Consider carbon neutral materials. Or sustainable materials?

Look forward to seeing your final work in AD22!

All the best,

My next goals:

I was extremely thankful to receive feedback from Gemma. Having a one on one discussion really enabled me to explain my design proposal which enabled a great flow of feedback and feedforward. In the oncoming weeks, I have decided to experiment with the second floors courtyard as my yoga/meditation space as the ground floor in quite public - we felt that having the intimate and private experience in a free flowing area defeated the purpose of the calm atmospheric experience I want to create. (Responding to function of the space - A cinematic experience of biophillia, light, shadow and movement.)

Although Gemma suggested I change my façade, I quite like to keep it how it is. This is because I feel that from the fort lane perspective it adds the biophilic textures and colours to the street. At the moment the street in my opinion is bland. When you look at the façade design there will be characteristics from the current architectural elements of the brick coming through. The cinematic experience of how light, shadow and time will affect this is how I think people will be attracted to the space and what to experience the interior.

Things to clarify:

- Types of plants/trees ... How can these survive in low light areas. How will these be maintaned? Freeflowing?

- Wood materiality, thinking about the absorption of sound. - busy city, What do I want my users to hear.
